Spring News

Quite a while since my last post… I took a much needed break away to South Africa for a few weeks which was amazing and now  looking forward to taking part in some South African dance workshops in Edinburgh this term.

I recently received news that I have been awarded funding from the Rebecca Skelton Fund to attend two BMC workshops in Edinburgh with Embody Move Association in 2016; next week I will embark on the 6 day course on Reflexes, Righting Reactions and Equilibrium Responses.

And lastly, Module 2 of the Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies Certification Programme with LIMS and Moving Forth will be taking place in Edinburgh, June. I will be assisting delivery of the module and teaching a few classes of it myself.

Autumn News

Autumn has been an incredibly busy term! In addition to my usual, I had the opportunity to teach Dance n Play and Creative Dance at Dance Base a few times with the under 5’s and parents – I had such a great time and it was great to see so many dads there! I also stepped in to help rehearse the lovely contemporary group at Lisa Phelan School of Dance in Leith for their Christmas show and my own Lorne Primary class did a great job at the annual Step it Up Dance Show and cluster show.

Dancing Light made another appearance at the National Museum of Scotland and the Midlothian Science Festival. I also had the opportunity to run some curriculum workshops at Trinity Primary School (Jungle Book) and Balgreen Primary School (Victorian Christmas). I will be back with the p2’s at Balgreen in January for a workshop on the History of Toys.

To finish off 2015, here’s a great photo from the last session of Belly Babies down in Leith. Merry Xmas!!

Fringe Festival aftermath

I had a great summer performing in the Fringe Festival with the Modern Troubadours in Fiesta de los Muertos. It was so fantastic to be part of a storytelling, music and theatre piece and to have the opportunity to perform for 14 nights in a row. Also to work with some amazing people. You can find photos and video on this website and also on my Facebook page.

And now, the Fringe has left the city along with all the people and things can start returning to some version of ‘normal’. This term I will be continuing my Pilates classes at Leith Academy, Inclusive Party Playlist at Dance Base and my schools work with Step it Up Dance. Belly Babies will also be continuing at Leith Community Centre and North Edinburgh Arts on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings until December. We are currently looking for additional funding to keep it going.

USA update

Faculty: William (Bill) Evans, Peggy Hackney, Claire Porter, Debra Knapp, Suzie Lundgren

I returned a couple of weeks ago from the USA where I attended the Bill Evans Teacher Intensive and International Conference on somatics-based approaches to teaching dance. Now so much was packed into these 13 days that there is no way I can tell you about everything. I had such a fantastic time dancing and learning from some amazing people. I can’t wait to get back to teaching and start using these ideas! Such a unique opportunity to meet such a community of people and experience dancing, moving, creating and performing with so much support, challenges and respect for individuality. I hope that I will be able to return again in the future.

June News

Term is nearly over for most of my classes! However, Module 1 of the Certificate Programme in Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies (Moving Forth/LIMS) kicked off today at the Calton Centre. I will be assisting this module for the next 3 weeks and am thoroughly looking forward to exploring movement with this wonderful new group!

The day after that finishes, I will be jetting off to the USA to attend the Bill Evans Dance Teachers Intensive and International Conference on Somatics based approaches to teaching dance. I hope to get some wonderful new ideas for the year ahead.

On my return, I will be teaching Creative Dance for 5-12yr olds 10am-12pm, 27th – 31st July at North Edinburgh Arts.

In my absence, Belly Babies should be continuing in July at Leith Community Centre on Tuesdays 10.30-11.30am and North Edinburgh Arts Fridays 10-11am with Roberta Beakbane or another great teacher. I hope to continue the Leith class throughout August.

Crowd-funding Success!!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to my crowd-funding campaign to attend the BETI workshops and conference in July in the USA. Today I reached my  target funding of £600 to help cover the accommodation and board costs whilst there. I am so overwhelmed by the response and am so grateful for all the support I am receiving, monetary and otherwise.

However, there are still 8 days left of the campaign in which I can raise funds. Any further funds that I receive will contribute to other costs of my trip such as travel (internal trains/buses and flights), travel insurance, visa, and accommodation either end of the event.

May News

I am very happy to announce that I have received a bursary to attend the Bill Evans Dance Teacher Intensive and the International Conference on Somatics-based Dance Education, USA. I will be travelling to the USA in July, incorporating a few days in Boston and NYC. This is a very exciting opportunity for me to train with world class dance and movement experts and will benefit all those who attend my classes or work with me. Some of you will remember the week-long workshop that I organised with Bill Evans, Don Halquist and Kitty Daniels at Dance Base, Edinburgh last year. In order to help me cover the costs of travelling and staying there, I am launching an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign. Please take a look and help me out if you can!

If you are interested in joining us there are still two places left. For more information visit:
