Faculty: William (Bill) Evans, Peggy Hackney, Claire Porter, Debra Knapp, Suzie Lundgren

I returned a couple of weeks ago from the USA where I attended the Bill Evans Teacher Intensive and International Conference on somatics-based approaches to teaching dance. Now so much was packed into these 13 days that there is no way I can tell you about everything. I had such a fantastic time dancing and learning from some amazing people. I can’t wait to get back to teaching and start using these ideas! Such a unique opportunity to meet such a community of people and experience dancing, moving, creating and performing with so much support, challenges and respect for individuality. I hope that I will be able to return again in the future.

June News

Term is nearly over for most of my classes! However, Module 1 of the Certificate Programme in Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies (Moving Forth/LIMS) kicked off today at the Calton Centre. I will be assisting this module for the next 3 weeks and am thoroughly looking forward to exploring movement with this wonderful new group!

The day after that finishes, I will be jetting off to the USA to attend the Bill Evans Dance Teachers Intensive and International Conference on Somatics based approaches to teaching dance. I hope to get some wonderful new ideas for the year ahead.

On my return, I will be teaching Creative Dance for 5-12yr olds 10am-12pm, 27th – 31st July at North Edinburgh Arts.

In my absence, Belly Babies should be continuing in July at Leith Community Centre on Tuesdays 10.30-11.30am and North Edinburgh Arts Fridays 10-11am with Roberta Beakbane or another great teacher. I hope to continue the Leith class throughout August.

Crowd-funding Success!!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to my crowd-funding campaign to attend the BETI workshops and conference in July in the USA. Today I reached my  target funding of £600 to help cover the accommodation and board costs whilst there. I am so overwhelmed by the response and am so grateful for all the support I am receiving, monetary and otherwise.

However, there are still 8 days left of the campaign in which I can raise funds. Any further funds that I receive will contribute to other costs of my trip such as travel (internal trains/buses and flights), travel insurance, visa, and accommodation either end of the event.

May News

I am very happy to announce that I have received a bursary to attend the Bill Evans Dance Teacher Intensive and the International Conference on Somatics-based Dance Education, USA. I will be travelling to the USA in July, incorporating a few days in Boston and NYC. This is a very exciting opportunity for me to train with world class dance and movement experts and will benefit all those who attend my classes or work with me. Some of you will remember the week-long workshop that I organised with Bill Evans, Don Halquist and Kitty Daniels at Dance Base, Edinburgh last year. In order to help me cover the costs of travelling and staying there, I am launching an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign. Please take a look and help me out if you can!

February News

Ellen BartelThis month I had the pleasure of working with Ellen Bartel (Ellen Bartel Dance Collective, USA) in residence at Dance Base, Edinburgh. We worked on creating material and choreography using personal stories of life-changing events. It was really great week, thank you to all involved!

This month also sees the launch of Belly Babies, supported by the Communities and Families Fund (National Lottery), with Moving Forth, a dance/movement therapy charity based in Edinburgh. Roberta Beakbane and I will be leading weekly interactive and social dance sessions for parents/carers and babies at Leith Community Centre, North Edinburgh Arts, Wester Hailes Education Centre and The White House (Craigmillar).
