Julie Chilvers graduated from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 2007. Since then she has worked with a variety of choreographers, performed in various dance works and has taught various age groups in a range of settings.
Julie is currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland where she maintains a high quality teaching practice and continues to work artistically and creatively.
A particular area of interest is in somatic approaches to movement and dance, specifically Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies. Julie became a Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) in 2014 through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies, NY and Moving Forth UK. She now teaches introductory workshops and assists on the Edinburgh-based certification programme. After a successful crowd-funding campaign and bursary award, Julie traveled to the USA in July 2015 to attend the Bill Evans Teachers Intensive and International Conference on somatic-based approaches to teaching dance. Following this, Julie began to attend developmental modules in Body Mind Centering with Embody Move Association UK, partially supported by the Rebecca Skelton Fund.
Julie works to improve opportunities for dance artists to learn somatic approaches to dance/movement in Scotland. Most recently, Julie organised for Bill Evans and co. (USA) to teach his unique workshop in somatic approaches to teaching dance at Dance Base, Edinburgh (June 2014) and is now Project Manager of the Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies Certificate Programme with Moving Forth (Edinburgh).
