Julie Chilvers CMA
I am a dance artist, dance facilitator, Pilates instructor and somatic movement educator (Laban/Bartenieff) in Edinburgh, Scotland.
I graduated from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 2007 and originally trained as a Pilates instructor with OCR in 2008. Since then I have worked with a variety of choreographers, performed in various dance works and facilitated dance for various age groups, in a range of settings.
In 2014 I became a Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) with the Laban/Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies, NY and Moving Forth, Scotland and have trained with Karen Studd, Laura Cox, Peggy Hackney and Bill Evans. I also worked with Moving Forth to run the LBMS certificate programmes and introductory courses in Edinburgh, later assisting and teaching.
Following this, I attended the Body-Mind Centering developmental courses with Embody Move UK and also gained a BSc (hons) Psychology in 2017.
Most recently I retrained in Pilates matwork with Brigid McCarthy Pilates Studio, Edinburgh and am a member of the Independent Pilates Teachers Association (IPTA).
I am most interested at working at intersection of all these practices and continue to develop my own method of working by combining approaches in dance, Pilates and movement.
